15 Students Hospitalised in Agartala Due to Alleged Food Poisoning, CM Manik Saha Orders Probe
At least 12 students were hospitalised after a sudden wave of illness due to alleged food poisoning swept through Bodhjung Girls School on Wednesday.
Agartala: At least 12 students were hospitalised after a sudden wave of illness due to alleged food poisoning swept through Bodhjung Girls School on Wednesday morning, leading to a chaotic situation in the area. As per the reports, the incident occurred after the students consumed hostel food. The incident surfaced after a girl student from the Maharaja Bir Bikram Welfare Society hostel began vomiting and complaining of severe abdominal pain shortly after arriving at the school.
According to the information, an alarm was raised, following one after the other students started vomiting and fainting in the school. A teacher stated, “About 15 students were affected. Four ambulances were called to the scene, and the students were rushed to GB Hospital for immediate treatment.”
CM Manik Saha Met The Students At Hospital
The students stated that they had rice and dal at their hostel before heading to school. However, as soon as they reached the school, they suddenly started experiencing abdominal pain and began vomiting.
The parents of the students have meanwhile raised serious concerns about the quality of food provided at the hostel. They alleged that the food at the hostel is of poor quality and lacks proper nutrition.
Taking serious cognizance over the crisis, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha expressed his concern through social media and said that the government is taking the matter very seriously. He said, “I have been informed about the illness of female students at Bodhjung Girls’ School. The government is taking this matter very seriously. GB Hospital authorities have been instructed to prioritize the treatment of the sick students. An investigation into the incident has been ordered.”
West Tripura District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar and SDM Manik Lal Das visited the school to assess the situation, following which the DM said, “Fifty students from various classes at Bodhjung Girls School reside in the hostel. After falling ill, 15 students have been hospitalized, and the remaining 35 are currently being examined. Discussions with the hostel authorities are underway, and food samples will be tested.”
On the other hand, Chief Minister Manik Saha also visited the hospital and met the students. He assured the parents that the treatment of the students is the government’s top priority. He also instructed the district administration to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
