Ahmedabad-Diu IndiGo Aircraft's Engine Catches Fire Just Before Takeoff

Ahmedabad: An Ahmedabad-Diu IndiGo flight aborted takeoff when one of its engines reportedly caught fire. The flight, ATR 72-600 (6E 7966), was carrying 60 passengers and was scheduled to depart at 11 am. 

According to reports, the aircraft had just begun its takeoff roll when the pilot detected a serious technical snag and issued a “Mayday” call to Air Traffic Control (ATC). Following emergency protocols, the takeoff was immediately aborted, and passengers were safely evacuated.

An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating, “A technical snag indication was noticed just before take-off on IndiGo flight 6E 7966 operating from Ahmedabad to Diu on 23 July 2025. Following the standard operating procedure, the pilots informed the authorities and returned the aircraft to the bay. The aircraft will undergo necessary checks and maintenance before resuming operations.”

The airline expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and assured that all affected passengers were being accommodated. “We are offering refreshments, alternative flights, or full refunds as per passenger preference,” the statement added.

This is the second such incident in recent days involving the airline. On Monday, another IndiGo flight operating from Goa to Indore encountered a technical issue just before landing. While the flight landed safely, the aircraft was grounded for a detailed inspection before its next deployment.

These back-to-back technical snags have sparked discussions about aircraft safety and the need for stringent pre-flight checks, especially with high passenger traffic during peak travel periods.
