Bengaluru: In a bid to ensure public safety and maintain order, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayananda issued an order on December 30, restricting public access to Phoenix Mall of Asia on Bellari Road in North Bengaluru. The restrictions, invoked under sections 144(1) and 144(2) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, will be in effect from 10 am on December 31 to 11:59 pm on January 15, 2024.

The move comes after Christmas Eve witnessed chaotic traffic conditions on Bellari Road, particularly near Phoenix Mall, prompting concerns about public safety and traffic management.

The police aim to prevent annoyance and disturbance to public tranquility during the New Year celebrations.

Notably, recent protests by pro-Kannada activists led to the closure of Phoenix Mall in Hebbal and Phoenix Marketcity in Whitefield on December 27.

Activists were demanding Kannada signboards, raising additional concerns about public order.

The police advisory aims to provide a safe environment for both traffic and the public at large during the festive period, considering past incidents of congestion and disturbances.

The restrictions seek to mitigate potential issues and ensure a smoother transition into the New Year for Bengaluru residents.
