New Delhi: Renowned DRDO scientist, Dr Ram Narain Agarwal, also known as 'Father of Agni Missiles' on Thursday passed away at the age of 84 in Hyderabad. Ram Narain Agarwal, who played a pivotal role in India's defence research, specifically in the development of India’s long-range ballistic missile program under the aegis of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is survived by his wife and two children. Dr Agarwal served as the first programme director of the Agni missiles. He was widely referred to as 'Agni Man' for his crucial contribution to India's Defence system.
DRDO scientist Ram Narain Agarwal's contributions to India's missile technology have been instrumental in enhancing the nation's defence capabilities. His expertise led to the successful development of the Agni missile series, which became a cornerstone of India's strategic defence framework.
The DRDO shared the information through its official X handle. “With profound grief and sorrow, DRDO offers the condolence on the sad demise of Dr Ram Narain Agarwal outstanding aerospace scientist and Padma Shree, Padma Bhushan awardee, who was instrumental in the development of India’s long-range missile, Agni. May his soul rest in peace,” the DRDO posted on X.
