PM Modi Likely to Visit Ukraine in August, First Visit Since 2022 Moscow's Invasion in Kyiv

This development comes as the Indian Prime Minister recently met his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

PM Modi Likely to Visit Ukraine in August, Weeks After Meeting Putin | Image: PTI/file

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely expected to visit Ukraine, marking his first visit since Moscow's invasion of Kyiv. The Prime Minister is expected to visit on August 23 and will meet President Volodymyr Zelensky.

This development comes as the Indian Prime Minister recently met his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

Earlier, PM Modi and President Zelensky met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy. A video surfaced showing the two leaders hugging when they met.

The two also had a telephone conversation in March this year, where the two discussed ways to strengthen the India-Ukraine partnership reiterated the "nation's people-centric" approach and called for dialogue and diplomacy for the resolutory of the ongoing conflict.

The Indian prime minister during the conversation asserted that India would continue to do everything for a peaceful solution.

'Huge Disappointment...': Ukrainian President Zelenskyy on PM Modi-Putin Meet

Reacting to this meeting, Zelenskyy expressed his "huge disappointment and a devastating blow to peace efforts."

Taking to X, the Ukrainian president said, "In Ukraine today, 37 people were killed, three of whom were children, and 170 were injured, including 13 children, as a result of Russia’s brutal missile strike. A Russian missile struck the largest children's hospital in Ukraine, targeting young cancer patients. Many were buried under the rubble."

"It is a huge disappointment and a devastating blow to peace efforts to see the leader of the world's largest democracy hug the world's most bloody criminal in Moscow on such a day," he further added referring to the deadly attacks.
