D K Shivakumar's Blow on Unauthorised Buildings in Bengaluru
D K Shivakumar announced that the demolition of unauthorized and dilapidated buildings in Bengaluru is underway, with property registrations halted.
Bengaluru: On Saturday, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced that efforts to demolish unauthorized and dilapidated buildings in Bengaluru are in progress. As the Bengaluru development minister, he also stated that the registration of unauthorized properties will be stopped and encroachments will be cleared.
Additionally, civic agencies and planning bodies will be granted greater authority.
“We have decided to stop unauthorised construction of buildings. The previous government had curtailed the powers of officials to take action against unauthorised construction,” the Deputy CM told reporters here.
“Our government has decided to give powers to BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike), BDA (Bangalore Development Authority) and BMRDA (Bengaluru Metropolitan Region Development Authority) to stop unauthorised construction. The registration of unauthorised properties will also be stopped. At the same time, we are also focusing on clearing encroachments,” he said.
Regarding flood prevention in Bengaluru, Shivakumar announced plans to develop 300 km of roads alongside Storm Water Drains (SWD) to mitigate flooding.
