‘Dynamic strategic relationship, team up on everything,’ Antony Blinken on India-US ties
Underlining US’ foreign policy goals, Blinken said that Washington is forging new coalitions with an aim to tackle the toughest shared challenges of the time.
Speaking just days after India successfully hosted the G20 Leaders' Summit, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken hailed ties between India and the United States while speaking at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) on Wednesday, September 13. Blinken asserted that the strategic relationship between India and the United States has never been as dynamic as it is today.
Blinken asserted that the two countries, India and the United States, are collaborating on a range of issues. “The US-India strategic partnership has never been more dynamic, as we team up on everything from advanced semiconductors to defence cooperation," said Antony Blinken.
Crediting US President Joe Biden for strengthening the partnership within the QUAD grouping which includes the US, India, Japan and Australia, Secretary of State Blinken spoke on US foreign policy as his address was themed on ‘Power and Purpose of American Diplomacy in a new era’. Blinken asserted that Washington is not only deepening partnerships with existing allies but is also forging new partnerships across the world.
Underlining the United States foreign policy goals, Blinken said that Washington is forging new coalitions to tackle the toughest shared challenges of the time. He also mentioned the India-Middle East- Europe Economic Corridor, announced on the sidelines of the G20 summit in New Delhi as a step towards bridging the global infrastructure gap.
“And just this past week at the G20, President Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced another ambitious transportation, energy, and technology corridor that will connect the ports of Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Italy, and the EU will team up with the US and India to turbocharge clean energy production, and digital connectivity, and strengthen critical supply chains across the region," said the US Secretary of State.
India’s G20 Summit was a success: US
The remarks come just days after the G20 Leaders’ Summit which was held in New Delhi on September 9-10. As India championed the voice of the Global South, the United States hailed India’s Presidency calling it a success. “We absolutely believe it was a success. The G20 is a big organisation. Russia is a member of the G20. China is a member of the G20,” said US State Department official spokesperson Matthew Miller.
