Surat: Earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale hit Mahesana, Gujarat at 10:15 PM IST.
The epicenter was located 13 kilometers southwest of Patan, in Gujarat's Banaskantha district. There is no news of loss of life or property.
“It's a small to moderate earthquake, typically originating from the Patan area due to its small faults,” an IRS official said.
The Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) in Gandhinagar recorded the earthquake's coordinates at a latitude of 23.742 and longitude of 72.065.
The epicenter of the earthquake has a depth of 10 KM.
The state has suffered nine major earthquakes in the past 200 years including the devastating earthquake of January 26, 2001, in Kutch district, as per the data provided by the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA).
