Earthquake Tremors Felt in Switzerland, France, and Germany with Epicenter in Laufenburg

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.2 hit the Laufenburg municipality in Switzerland early Thursday. Tremors were also felt in France and Germany.

Laufenburg: An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.2 hit the Laufenburg municipality in Switzerland early Thursday. Tremors were also felt in France and Germany. Numerous locals took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to share their experiences. The Swiss Seismological Service said, that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 7.8 kilometers.

Small Earthquake Felt in Villages Near Annecy

On June 7, a series of earth tremors hit southeast France, with the largest registering a magnitude of 3.2, classifying it as a 'slight earthquake.' No injuries or damage have been reported.

Earthquake in Central Switzerland

On June 4, an earthquake measuring approximately 4.4 on the Richter scale shook the Pragel Pass between the cantons of Schwyz and Glarus. According to the Swiss Seismological Service, the quake was felt throughout Switzerland.

The earthquake occurred at 2:34 AM, about six kilometers southwest of Lake Wägital. The SED said that minor damage could occur near the epicenter in an earthquake of this magnitude. On average, the SED records three to four earthquakes daily in Switzerland and neighboring regions, totaling 1,000 to 1,500 quakes annually. So far this year, the SED has recorded 756 earthquakes.

Annually, around 10 to 20 tremors with magnitudes of 2.5 or higher are felt by the population. The most recent significant quake was likely felt near Arolla in canton Valais, registering around 3.8 on the Richter scale.
