A fire broke out at Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) main office in Bengaluru on Friday. In the incident, eight BBMP officials were injured.

The blaze was reported at the road asphalt quality control unit. The fire broke out in no time due to a conflagration in a chemical.

The injured staff has been shifted to the hospital.

BBMP Commissioner Tushar Girinath said that the fire was reported at 5 pm. "The fire broke out on a huge scale and workers have been injured all of them have been shifted to St Martha's Hospital for first aid and later they will be shifted to the burns ward."

"Eight people have been injured. We cannot say anything about their health. We will get to know in the enquiry as to what was the reason for the burn," he added.

DCP (Central) Srinivas Gowda said, "It is a lab that tests road construction materials and they have three hot air ovens. In one of the ovens, there are signs of a blast. They would have been testing some flammable chemical which caught fire. As a prima facie, we don't see anything malicious."

The visual from the spot showed plumes of black smoke billowing from the quality control cell.
