French President Emanuel Macron backed India's bid for permanent United Nations Security Council seat, while delivering his speech at UN General Debate
New Delhi: French President Emanuel Macron backed India's bid for permanent United Nations Security Council seat, while delivering his speech at UN General Debate on Thursday.
President Macron of France addressing the UN General Debate on 25th September, he said, "France is in favour of the Security Council being expanded. Germany, Japan, India and Brazil should become permanent members, as well as two countries that Africa would designate to represent it."
Earlier, The United States has also expressed its support for India’s longstanding push to secure a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), while Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's concluding trip to the US for the Quad summit being held in Delaware.
India's backing at UNSC was reaffirmed in a joint statement issued by the leaders of the Quad, comprising the US, India, Japan, and Australia following their summit in the US.
India has been advocating for a permanent seat in the UNSC for several years, with highlighting its contributions to peacekeeping missions, rising global influence, and its status as the world’s largest democracy. The Quad leaders underscored the importance of comprehensive reform of the UNSC, and the need to make the body more inclusive, representative, transparent, and democratic.
