Delhi: Heavy rain, along with lightning and thunderstorms, struck Delhi on Friday morning, causing waterlogging at the New Delhi railway station. Visuals have emerged from the railway station wherein people can be seen struggling to navigate through the deep water at the station. Images from the flooded regions depict individuals wading through knee-deep water.

Various parts of Delhi-NCR, such as Madhu Vihar, and Noida, were submerged after an intense overnight downpour. Indirapuram and Central Delhi, among other areas, experienced rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning early Friday morning. The waterlogging has led to heavy traffic jams in several locations, causing major inconvenience for commuters.

Around 5:30 AM a portion of the roof collapsed at Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport amid heavy rains early Friday morning. One died during treatment in the hospital while five individuals sustained injuries.

Delhi Fire Services said a search operation is underway to make sure no one else is trapped in the damaged vehicles.

Departures from T1, temporarily suspended

Delhi International Airport spokesperson said, “As a result of this incident, all departures from Terminal 1 are temporarily suspended, and check-in counters are closed as a safety measure. We sincerely regret this disruption and apologize for any inconvenience caused.” He explained that due to heavy rain since early this morning, a portion of the canopy at the old Departure forecourt of Delhi Airport's Terminal 1 collapsed around 5 am.
