New Delhi: Amid increased political tension in Bangladesh after the removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Indian Coast Guard has said that security along the international maritime boundary line has been strengthened to prevent any unauthorized entry into India.

"After the political unrest in Bangladesh, the Indian Coast Guard has enhanced its patrolling and surveillance along the international maritime boundary line. To prevent any hostile act and illegal intrusion we have beefed up the security, positioned two to three ships...Sunderban Creek areas are being patrolled by our air cushion vessels and interceptor boats," ICG Deputy DG Anupam Rai was quoted as saying to news agency ANI.

He also elaborated that the Sunderban Creek areas are being closely monitored using air-cushion vessels and interceptor boats. The Indian Coast Guard's coastal surveillance radars at Haldia, Paradeep, and Gopalpur are functioning continuously, keeping a vigilant watch over India's nearshore waters for any indications of illegal activity.

In a well-planned operation carried out on August 10, BSF troops, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Police, apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals along with two Indian facilitators at a checkpoint, said BSF in a statement on Sunday. In view of ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, BSF Meghalaya has assessed and heightened security along the Indo-Bangladesh border, adopting a multi-tier dominance strategy.

All the apprehended illegal Bangladeshi migrants with Indian facilitators were handed over to the concerned police station for further disposal and legal action.

Additionally, BSF also nabbed 11 Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross into India--two each from the Bengal and Tripura borders, and seven from the Meghalaya-Bangladesh border.
