Indian Army Contingent of 137 personnel depart for Exercise Bright Star in Cairo
This year 34 countries are participating in this exercise. This will be the largest-ever military exercise in the Middle East and North African region.
Indian Army Contingent comprising 137 personnel on Tuesday departed for Exercise Bright Star-23 to be held in Cairo from August 31 to September 14, 2023. The exercise will be conducted at Mohammad Naguib Military Base in Egypt. It is a multinational tri-service exercise being held between India, Egypt, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Greece.
Ex-Bright Star-23 will see the Indian Army's participation with 137 personnel
Indian Army's contingent with 137 people will participate in this exercise. Initially, it was an exercise between the US and Egypt. The first edition of this exercise was conducted in the year 1980. From 1995 onwards the exercise was expanded for participation by other nations as well. The previous edition of this exercise was conducted in 2021. In that exercise 21 countries participated.
This year 34 countries are participating in this exercise. This will be the largest-ever military exercise in the Middle East and North African region. This is the first time that the Indian Armed Forces are participating in Exercise Bright Star with a total of 549 personnel.
The Indian Army is represented by the 23 Jat Battalion. The exercise will consist of a large number of training activities focused on combating emerging unconventional threats and enhancing regional partnerships amongst the participant nations aimed at world peace. In addition to this, the exercise will also include a combined arms live firing exercise based on a tactical setting. A Panel discussion on contemporary topics is also planned to be conducted on cyber security for which the Indian Armed Forces are the lead force.
This exercise will provide a unique opportunity for the Indian Army to share best practices and experiences with the participant countries. They will also learn tactics from these nations and enrich their professional experience from the exercise. India will share tactics and weaponry and will work towards an untoward security situation around the world, especially the threats from China and the ongoing global situation amongst the Russo-Ukrainian war.
