Jaishankar pays tribute to Vajpayee on 5th death anniversary, recalls legacy in diplomacy

His life's journey culminated in 2018 due to an ailment at the age of 93.

As the nation remembers political stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpaye on his death anniversary on August 16, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday paid glowing tributes to former Prime Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran, saying that his undying legacy in diplomacy and strategy remains a guiding light. 

"Pay my homage to Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji on his Punya Tithi. His manifold contributions to advancing India on the world stage will always be remembered. In diplomacy and strategy, his legacy remains a guiding light," tweeted EAM Jaishankar. 

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to BJP stalwart and party’s first ever Prime Minister saying  India greatly benefitted from his leadership. "I join the 140 crore people of India in paying homage to the remarkable Atal Ji on his Punya Tithi," he said.

Born on 25 December 1924 in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior to a middle-class Brahmin family, Krishna Bihari Vajpayee and Krishna Devi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee rose to a prominent leader in Indian politics. 

His father, in addition to being a schoolmaster, was a poet, passing on the virtues of the great leader. 

His life's journey culminated in 2018 due to an ailment at the age of 93.
