New Delhi: Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut found herself in a controversial situation at Chandigarh airport when a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) woman official allegedly slapped her for her remarks on farmers. The incident occurred as the BJP’s newly elected from Mandi Lok Sabha constituency in Himachal Pradesh, was about to board a flight to Delhi. 

The CISF constable involved in the incident, Kulwinder Kaur, has since been suspended, and an FIR has been lodged against her. Kaur cited Ranaut's comments on farmers, particularly during the protests against the farm laws in 2020-21, as the reason behind her actions. She stated that she felt compelled to act due to what she perceived as disrespect towards the farming community.

Questions have emerged regarding the security detail accompanying Ranaut, given her status as an MP-elect and her previous concerns about threats to her safety. Kangana Ranaut has been provided with Y-plus security by the Ministry of Home Affairs since 2020, following a dispute with MP Sanjay Raut and allegations of threats to her life in Mumbai. Eleven commandos are tasked with her protection, including mobile security and residential guards across the country.

While SPG protection is reserved for the Prime Minister and their immediate family, other categories such as Z+, Z, Y, and X offer varying levels of security cover. 

The decision to provide security is based on threat assessments conducted by security agencies, with considerations for individuals' positions in government or civil society.

In a Lok Sabha response in 2018, the government indicated a shift in VIP protection duties from CRPF to CISF and NSG.
