Karnataka: School principal booked under POCSO for allegedly raping 10-year-old girl
The police have also recorded the statement of the minor and her mother which was done in presence of members of the child welfare commission.
A ten-year-old girl studying in Class 2 was allegedly raped by the principal who is also the owner of the school. The incident took place on August 3 in Varthur Police station limits near Bengaluru. The victim was allegedly lured by the accused who has been identified as Lambert Pushparaj to his residence which is adjacent to the school at 11.30 AM.
The accused has been taken into custody by the police and booked under the POCSO Act. The police have also recorded the statement of the minor and her mother which was done in presence of members of the child welfare commission.
According to the police, prima facie the accused was involved in the rape and a team is investigating the entire sequence of the alleged incident. The medical examination of the victim was carried out and prima facie points to rape, said police.
"POCSO case was registered in Varthur police station last night. One person by the name of Lambert Pushparaj, aged 65 years, who is the principal and owner of a school in Varthur has raped a 10-year-old at 11.30 AM on August 3 at his residence which is adjacent to the school. The girl was studying in second standard and is suffering from dyslexia,” Whitefield division DCP S Girish told Republic.
The officer added that the girl student revealed about the assault to her mother in the evening after coming back from school. “When the girl came back to her house at 4.30 pm in the evening she revealed about the incident to her mother who took the girl to a hospital. We received an intimation from the hospital that such an incident had happened and we immediately went there. We enquired from the girl and her mother and learnt about the crime. We then arrested the school principal Lambert Pushparaj. He is in custody. Technical teams are on the job and we have collected necessary evidence," he stated.
The police also ruled out more such cases being reported from the school and asserted that it is the first time that such an incident had taken place.
