Landslide in Karnataka near Puttur Bypass, Traffic Affected on National Highway 275

A landslide occurred on the Puttar By-pass Road in Karnataka, blocking a part of the National Highway 275, affecting traffic between Mysuru and Mangaluru.

New Delhi: Amid the heavy monsoon, another landslide occurred on the Puttar By-pass Road in Karnataka, officials reported on Friday.

The landslide has disrupted traffic on the National Highway 275.

Landslide on Puttar By-pass Road Causes Traffic Diversions

According to locals, the landslide happened around 3 p.m. on National Highway 275, also known as the Bantawal-Mysuru Road and Puttar By-pass. 

As a result of the incident, vehicles heading to Mysuru and Mangaluru have been redirected through Puttur town.

No injuries or vehicle entrapments have been reported. The police have taken appropriate measures to ensure safety by placing barriers on both sides of the landslide area and diverting traffic through Puttur city.

Heavy Rains Expected to Delay Clearance Work

The State Highways Department deployed excavation machinery and workers to begin clearing the rubble at 8 a.m. However, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre has forecasted more rains in the coastal and interior regions, which could further hinder clearance efforts.

Landslides in Kerala Has Claimed Over 300 Lives

Recently, a massive landslide occurred in Wayanad district, Kerala, resulting in over 300 fatalities. Rescue operations are ongoing to safely evacuate residents from the affected areas.

On Friday, Kerala Health Minister Veena George confirmed that the series of landslides in Wayanad on July 30 has led to 308 deaths. 

Rescue and relief operations are ongoing in the severely affected areas of Chooralmala and Mundakkai in the Meppadi region. Minister George also said that, to date, 195 bodies and 113 body parts have been recovered.
