New Delhi: A landslide occurred on the Shree Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra route near southern Deori in Jammu on Thursday, temporarily disrupting the pilgrimage. The landslide which occurred amid heavy rainfall in the region, did not result in any injuries. The incident affected a section of the path, causing concerns for the safety of pilgrims on their way to the revered shrine.

Shrine Administration Reacted Swiftly

In response to the incident, the Shrine Board officials said that the Yatra has now resumed from the alternate route. 

There were no casualties or injuries were reported, the official added. 

The Yatra was resumed promptly after the redirection, minimizing delays for the devotees.

Officials on Alert

The shrine board officials closely monitored the situation at the landslide area. They remained vigilant to prevent any further disturbances or risks on the pilgrimage route. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported heavy rainfall in parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the past 24 hours, with Katra, near the Vaishno Devi shrine, receiving 13 cm of rain. More rainfall is expected in the Jammu region until August 16.

In Bandipora district, a cloudburst triggered flash floods today, but no casualties have been reported.

Weather forecast

The Srinagar Meteorological Centre has predicted light to moderate rain across Jammu and Kashmir, with wet weather expected from August 15 through the early hours of August 16-20.
