Man Sexually Assaults 8-Year-Old Girl in Maharashtra's Kalyan, Arrested

Thane: A 34-year-old man in Kalyan has been arrested for sexually assaulting a minor; a case under BNS and POCSO has been registered against him.

This case of sexual assault comes amid protests seeking ‘Justice for Abhaya’, a trainee doctor who was raped and murdered in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Man Sexually Assaults 8-Year-Old Girl in Kalyan

 A man was arrested in Kalyan in Thane district for allegedly flashing and sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl, a police official said on Sunday.

"On August 15, he took the child to his house, flashed her and then sexually assaulted her. 

Accused Arrested After Complaint by Victim's Parents

The 34-year-old man from Beturkar Pada was held on Saturday, the Mahatma Phule police station official said. 

A case under BNS and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered on the complaint of the child's parents," he said.

Resident Doctor Physically Assaulted in Mumbai

In another news, a resident doctor of Sion Hospital in Mumbai was physically assaulted by a drunk patient and his attendants in the early hours of August 18.

A group of 5-6 intoxicated patient attendants threatened and attempted to physically assault the resident doctor at around 3:30 am.

She also sustained injuries while defending herself. The female resident doctor gave her statement and filed an FIR at the Sion Police Station; doctors from BMC MARD Association were also present at the Sion Police Station.

Kolkata Rape and Murder Case

These cases of assault and sexual harassment are being reported in the light of the Kolkata Rape and Murder Case.

On the night of August 9, the 31-year-old trainee doctor ‘Abhaya’ had completed her 36-hour long shift and had gone to the seminar room to take rest when she was attacked.

The woman was brutally raped, gravely injured and then murdered at her workplace; the accused, Sanjoy Roy has been arrested and the case is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The case has sparked massive protests across the country, demanding justice for the victim and a stronger legislation ensuring safety of female medical workers and women in general.
