New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday informed that they don't have an update on Sheikh Hasina's plans when asked whether she would stay in the country or leave for other country of which she has visa for. Bangladesh former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was forced to leave the country as a result of military coup which risked her life in the aftermath of violent protest against government's quota move reserving 30 per cent jobs for veterans family members.

Addressing a presser on Bangladesh situation and on giving political asylum to Shiekh Haseena, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Our EAM has already explained the approval for former PM Shiekh Haseena to come to India was given at short notice. The situation is still evolving as far as Bangladesh is concerned...”

He further said, “... The situation is evolving. It has been reported that this evening there will be a swearing-in of the interim government. Once, those things take place, I would like to emphasise one thing, for the government and the people of India, the interest of the people of Bangladesh is foremost in our minds...”

It is to be mentioned that Muhammad Yunus has been sworned-in as chief advisor to the interim government in Bangladesh. READ MORE
