Badaun: In a tragic incident, a five-year-old girl died in a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh, with her family alleging that her death was due to a lack of medical attention. They claimed that the attending doctor was allegedly playing cricket while the girl was suffering from a high fever.

A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter and the decision will be taken by the panel. The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun, as per news agency PTI.

Professor Arun Kumar, the principal of the government medical college, confirmed that the deceased girl was named Sofia and was brought to the hospital by her father, Nazim, on Wednesday afternoon.

Family Alleges Negligence on Doctors’ Part

However, the family alleged that upon arrival, there was no pediatrician available, and they were sent to multiple rooms where no doctors or staff could be found, according to the news agency.

"Nazim has alleged that there was no pediatrician available and that the staff directed them to several rooms where no doctors or staff were present," the principal was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

3-Member Committee Formed To Investigate Incident

Nazim, the girl's father, claimed that as the family left the hospital, he saw doctors and staff engaged in a cricket match. Despite repeatedly pleading for help, no medical attention was given to his daughter, who tragically passed away afterward.

Dr Kumar acknowledged the heartbreaking incident and confirmed that a committee of three doctors has been formed to investigate the allegations. He stated that further actions would be taken based on the panel's findings.

In response to the claims about doctors playing cricket instead of attending to the child, Dr. Kumar clarified that the doctors involved in the outpatient department were not part of the match. He suggested that those who may have participated could have been on leave that day.
