New Delhi: A Jamia Millia Islamia University student has made shocking claims alleging that she was sexually molested, harassed and was being forced to convert her faith by the university administration. The student has also filed a complaint with the Delhi Police, following which a probe has been initiated. Meanwhile, the accusation has sparked an outrage in the university with several groups of students coming out in support of the victim.
According to the student, she was coerced into converting her faith and was subjected to sexual molestation, including her number being circulated on social media, inappropriate touch, and obscene gestures. She also alleges that she was socially boycotted by the administration and faced harassment on campus.
The student went public with her complaint last month and has reportedly lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police, which is currently under investigation.
However, the Jamia Millia Islamia administration has sent a legal notice to the student, alleging that she was not able to clear her semester and was asked to repeat it again. The administration claims that several concessions and opportunities were given to the girl student, but she could not show improvement in her academics.
The student's allegations have sparked outrage and concern among students, teachers, and civil society groups. The university administration's response has been criticised as insensitive and an effort to shift blame.
The incident has raised questions about the safety and well-being of students on campus and the need for universities to take allegations of harassment and sexual molestation seriously.
An investigation into the matter is underway, and the student community is demanding justice and support for the victim.
