On New year's eve, brawl breaks out between Kuki and Meitei communities in Delhi
As per police sources, a 20-year-old man, after being drunk, on New Year's Eve, started abusing a few people from one of the communities.
New Delhi: The ongoing ethnic clash between Meitis and Kukis in Manipur has now led to a full-blown brawl between the two communities in the national capital on New Year's eve. The unfortunate and shocking incident took place at Christian colony in North Delhi's Patel Chest area last night.
As per police sources, a 20-year-old man after being drunk on New Year's Eve, started abusing few people from one of the communities, leading to the escalation of brawl. In response, both communities engaged into a physical altercation. Soon after, a mob of 50-60 men gathered inside the colony.
Giving further details of the incident, North Delhi DCP Manoj Kumar Meena told Republic, ‘’At 12 AM on new Year's Eve, a PCR call was made at Patel chest police station after crowd has gathered in the colony where the scuffle started by a young man who was drunk and started abusing. The local police and SHO intervened and dispersed the crowd that had gathered in a large group and the matter came to rest thereafter. No formal complaint has been registered by any individual in this matter. However, security deployment has been done in the area to monitor the situation from escalating further."
Police sources added that elder people from both communities were called at the police station to make peace between the communities. Along with that, the senior police officers from both the communities involved the matter in the Delhi police also guided the community members to amicably resolve the matter. At present, the situation remains normal and stable at the site of conflict.
