'One Nation, One Student ID Card' vision of AICTE in its new handbook for upcoming 3 years

Marking a big development towards the future of education in India, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) chairman Prof. TG Sitharam today launched an Approval Process Handbook for Academic Year 2024-2027. The AICTE which has come up with this handbook elaborated on the processes which institutions need to follow while seeking approval from the council to run technical and management programmes/courses.

The launch was followed by a special emphasis on the amendments and provisions that have been incorporated this year in the Approval Process Handbook with a primary focus on quality of education, simplicity in procedures and transparency in implementation.
Among 15 enlisted proposals after gaining feedback from subject expert, the body has come up with a special Focus on the student registration from the AICTE Approved Institutions for “One Nation One Student ID Card” (APAAR ID Card /ABC ID) to avail the benefit of scholarships, rewards and access to Academic Data.
Provision for Extension of Approval up to 3 years for outstanding Institutions, Simplified Regulation for Extension of Approval for the Institutions and Provision for employed/ working professionals to upgrade their academic qualification/skill sets at diploma/degree/postgraduate level through flexible mode (timings) are some of the several changes which have been proposed in the handbook.
In the address by the chairman, he emphasised that it is for the first time that AICTE posted the draft of the new APH in the public domain to seek opinions and suggestions/ feedback from various stakeholders and experts. More than 600 suggestions and comments were received from different stakeholders, which were evaluated by an expert committee and many suggestions were incorporated in the final draft.
The Provision for employed and working professionals to upgrade their academic qualification/ skillsets at diploma/degree/postgraduate level through flexible mode (timings) and more clarity on the approval process for Open and Distance Learning (ODL)/Online Learning (OL) can also boost the morale of enthusiastic students of every nature if implemented.
AICTE & its prominence
The AICTE as a National Level Apex Advisory Body and as a Statutory body for developing and promoting quality technical education in the country in a coordinated and integrated manner. AICTE as an individual body plans to develop constant efforts to improve the quality of technical education in India.
