UAE Has Scripted A Golden Chapter in History of Humanity, Says PM Modi at BAPS Temple Inauguration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urges the gathering to honour the President of UAE, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with a standing ovation. “On behalf of the entire India and millions of Indians living around the world, I express my heartfelt gratitude to President Mohamed bin Zayed and the UAE Government”, the PM said.

Speaking at the inauguration of the BAPS Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, PM Modi says, “The UAE, which until now was known for Burj Khalifa, Museum of the Future, Sheikh Zayed Mosque and other hi-tech buildings, has now added another cultural chapter to its identity. I am confident that a large number of devotees will come here in the coming times”.

UAE President Sheikh Mohammad Zayed Al Nahyan said the [BAPS] “temple should not only be built, but look like one too”, PM Modi says while addressing a gathering in Abu Dhabi, as he recalls Zayed Al Nahyan's words of commitment on “shared harmony” between India and the UAE.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi says no praise would be sufficient to laud the role of the UAE government in the construction of the BAPS temple.

The recently-inaugurated BAPS temple in the UAE will be a symbol of communal harmony and unity of the world, PM Modi says.

A grand and divine temple is being inaugurated today in Abu Dhabi, PM Modi says while addressing the crowd after the mandir inauguration. “The inauguration of the temple has years of hard work and dreams of many are connected with the temple”, the PM added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is gathering a crowd of devotees after inaugurating the iconic BAPS Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the BAPS temple in Abu Dhabi, International coordinator of BAPS Sanstha Ishwarchandradas Swami extended his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being part of the historic event. He said, “Honoured to have PM Modi with us. It is a sacred day for all of us at BAPS.”

Swami ji added, “It was PM Modi’s wish to have the temple being built in Abu Dhabi. We welcome all the devotees who arrived for the inauguration.”

The BAPS temple in Abu Dhabi is an example of architectural marvel. Among the key architectural features of the temple are 96 bells and ‘Gaumukhs’ installed around the path leading to the temple. 

It is being said that these 96 bells are a tribute to Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s 96 years of life. 

Nano tiles have been used in the construction of the temple, which will provide comfort to the visitors to walk on even in the hot weather.

On the top left of the temple is a stone carving of the scene of Pramukh Swami Maharaj envisioning the temple in Abu Dhabi in 1997.

No ferrous material (which is more vulnerable to corrosion) has been used in the temple.

The first ever Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi and the largest temple in gulf region, the BAPS Mandir on Wednesday inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking the cultural milestone between India and the UAE.

BAPS Temple details:

• The height of the temple is 108 ft, length 262 ft and width 180 ft.
• While the external facade uses pink sandstone from Rajasthan, the interior uses Italian marbles
• A total of 20,000 tonnes of stones and marble was shipped in 700 containers for the temple
• More than Rs 700 crore was spent on the temple’s construction

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Mandir. He will be inaugurating the temple shortly. 

Ahead of the inaugural ceremony of the BAPS temple in Abu Dhabi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, Actor Akshay Kumar arrived at the temple to be part of the historic religious ceremony. 

On Abu Dhabi's BAPS temple, Actor Dilip Joshi said, "Even after seeing this, it is difficult to believe that such a beautiful BAPS temple has been constructed. I was present here when the foundation stone of this temple was laid by PM Modi. The Ruler of Dubai has a big heart, he gave the land and permission to construct this temple. I pray that the message of harmony is spread across the world from this temple."

Calling it a “very symbolic day” for the large Indian diaspora in the UAE, Former Indian ambassador to UAE, Navdeep Suri told news agency ANI, “For many years, it's been a spiritual and a religious need for them [Indians in UAE]. And I know that in 2015, when the Prime Minister came here for the first time, he'd put in a request to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, then crown prince of Abu Dhabi, that it would be nice if some land could be granted. And soon thereafter, I came here as an ambassador and started following up on actually getting the land”.

Revealing that a total area of 13-and-a-half acres of land was allotted for the temple initially, Suri further said, “We got another 13-and-a-half acres for the parking”. 

"We saw step-by-step how this mandir has come about. But I think as we celebrate the wonderful Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, we celebrate the work, the energy, and the organization of the BAPS sect in building it...The UAE is actually trying to demonstrate through actions its commitment to building inter-faith harmony between the different communities residing in this country", he added.

This is an extremely happy moment for India and all Indians across the world, Singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan told news agency ANI, just moments before the inauguration of the BAPS Mandir in Abu Dhabi. "This is a historic moment in our lives where we are going to witness a Mandir that is so magnificent. Only our PM [Narendra Modi] can execute this..."

At the World Government Summit, PM Modi said that the world needs to function as ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ and work together in brotherhood.

Post COVID-19, people in India began to have more faith in the government, said PM Modi in Dubai. “We were sensitive towards the needs and patience of the citizens (during the period). The approach was “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance”.

In order to eradicate corruption, the Government of India transferred at least 400 billion dollars to citizens via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer), said PM Modi in Dubai.

The BAPS Mandir is inspired by Vedic architecture and uses the Nagara style.

The BAPS Mandir is the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi and the largest in the UAE.

The consecration ceremony of the BAPS Hindu Mandir took place in Abu Dhabi this morning. PM Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate the temple at 6 pm.
