New Delhi: Jailed pro-Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh who won from Khadoor Sahib, has been granted parole. The radical leader is likely to take oath as Lok Sabha MP on July 5 2024.

Pro-Khalistani Leader Amritpal Singh Out On Parole

According to independent Faridkot MP Sarbhjeet Singh Khalsa, the controversial leader has been granted parole for up to four days from July 5 under specific conditions.

The parole approval has been communicated to the Jail Superintendent in Dibrugarh, by the Amritsar District Commissioner.

Amritpal Singh May Take Oath On July 5

The oath taking ceremony of Amritpal Singh is expected to be on July 5 and there are reports that the Khalistani separatist may be airlifted to Delhi as he is detained under National Security Act (NSA).

A request for the oath has also been forwarded to Lok Sabha Speaker; in the request, Singh has sought temporary release for the same.

Who is Amritpal Singh?

A jailed radical leader, Amritpal Singh won the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat with a massive margin of 1,97,120 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Kulbir Singh Zira of Congress. He ran for office as an independent candidate.

Why was Amritpal Singh Arrested?

Amritpal Singh was arrested by Punjab police in April last year, weeks after he evaded police and the stringent National Security Act was invoked against him. The attacks in London in March 2023 were found to be in retaliation to the action taken by Punjab Police against pro-Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh on March 18, 2023.
