Mumbai: Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) was on Friday gripped with panic after the Government Railways Police (GRP) received a call from an unidentified person, claiming that an RDX (Explosive) was placed at the railway station. Following the threat call, the local police and bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot and a search operation was initiated. However, nothing suspicious was found during the search operation, the officials claimed.

Following the incident, the Mumbai police registered a case into the matter and efforts were put in place to trace the person who made the hoax call. According to the sources, a suspect was detained by the police and was being interrogated. The suspect has been identified as Sachin Shinde.

Police Have Detained A Suspect

A police officer stated that when an attempt was made to trace the location of the caller, it showed up to be near the Terminus. However, the mobile phone of the individual was switched off shortly after.

"The number used to make the call was traced to locations in both Mumbai and Bihar," GRP Mumbai said.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Mumbai, is one of the busiest train stations in the world from where lakhs of passengers come and go every day. It has 18 platforms and serves as a terminal for both long-distance and suburban trains.

In another incident reported earlier this year in March, a 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly calling up Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar police control room, claiming that bombs had been planted at Kalyan and Dadar railway stations. He had also allegedly threatened that the explosions would be triggered, which later turned out to be a hoax call.

As the call was received, the police took prompt action and traced the call to Nallasopara in Palghar district that comes under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The suspect, Vikas Shukla, was thereafter caught by the police from Nallasopara within hours of receiving the call.

"He was arrested after it was confirmed that the bomb threat was a hoax call. A case has been registered under various sections," police said.
