Tamil Nadu Weather: Heavy Rain Alert In 12 Districts Till March 14 | Image: ANI

Chennai: Several districts in Tamil Nadu have been issued orange and yellow alerts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for heavy rain over the next four days. This change in weather is due to a cyclonic circulation over the sea. The department has also predicted light to moderate rain in Chennai.

The affected districts include Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, and Ramanathapuram.

Additionally, a thunderstorm warning has been issued for isolated areas across the state for the next three days. Authorities have advised citizens to take necessary precautions and stay indoors during the heavy rain. School and college holidays are also being considered.

Chennai Weather: Fog and Mist in the Morning

In Chennai, the weather agency predicts fog and mist in the early hours of Tuesday, March 11. However, dry weather is expected in the state from Thursday, March 13, with no significant change in the maximum temperature over the next three days. Temperatures may rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal.

During the northeast monsoon season, Tamil Nadu received 14% more rainfall than average. The state recorded 447 mm of rainfall, compared to the average of 393 mm, with Chennai receiving 845 mm.

Schools Likely to Remain Closed

Due to the heavy rain alert, authorities are considering school and college holidays in the affected districts. Students in the region may stay home as a precautionary measure during the bad weather conditions.
