Tripura Assembly Poll Results 2023 LIVE: BJP Manik Saha set to return with clear majority

Tripura's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Kiran Gitte briefed that no recounting demand or complaint was received from any political parties after the counting of the votes completes. He said, "Under the Election Commission (EC) guidance election was conducted here in Tripura. Results were announced at 6 pm. Throughout the election, EC protocols were followed and no recounting demand or complaint was received from any party. About 90% of the voting was witnessed."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah thanked people of Tripura for supporting and showing faith in the Bharatiya Janata Party. Addressing people, post declaration of result in the three Northeastern states, Shah said, "I thank Tripura for placing trust in BJP again. It is a victory of pro-development politics that BJP has delivered under PM Modi's leadership. Together we will move ahead and build a prosperous Tripura."

Tipra Motha Chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has congratulated Tripura Chief Minister for the major win and thanked his supporters who voted for his party. Deb Barma said, "The 2-year old party has become the second biggest party in Tripura due to the blessings of people. I have congratulated Tripura CM. Whenever we will conduct talks, I will talk about the issues." 

He added that we are the second largest party so we will sit in the constructive opposition, but will not sit with CPM or Congress. We can sit independently. We will help the government as and when they need." 

Huge deployment of security forces throughout Tripura to prevent any kind of post poll violence after the results are out. Security forces have been deployed in big numbers and thorough checking is being conducted in the entire state. 

The counting of all the 60 assembly seats is completed. According to the EC, the Bharatiya Janata Party and IPFT have registered a clear majority in 33 seats. On the other hand, Tipra Motha has won 13 seats. CPIM has won 11 seats and Congress won 3 seats.

As per the Election commission's trend, BJP has won a total of 31 seats with 39% of the vote share.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address BJP workers and supporters on Thursday as the party appeared set to retain power in Tripura on its own and with its senior ally Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party in Nagaland.
 

According to the EC, the Bharatiya Janata Party has registered victory in 22 constituencies and is leading in 10. The saffron party needs only seats to form govt of its own. On the other hand, Tipra Motha has won 11 seats and is currently leading on 2 seats. CPIM has won 6 seats and is leading in 5 while Congress won 2 seats and is leading in 1.

Responding to BJP's performance in Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland elections, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said that 2023 started on a positive note for the  BJP. "For the first time in the northeast has come a region which is no more neglected. The new India, with the new northeast, is different. Northeast is now a vibrant region. Northeast people are now seeing the light of development. The transformation of Northeast only because of the commitment and vision of the Prime Minister," he said.

BJP has bagged 20 seats and is leading in 13 seats, according to EC. The party needs 11 seats to form a government on its own.

The celebration started at the BJP office, Agartala as the party inches towards the majority mark. Several top leaders including CM  Manik Saha, Rajya Sabha member and former CM Biplab Deb and party spokesperson Sambit Patra were present with the party workers as they celebrated the party's performance in the election.

According to the EC, the saffron party is leading with around 39% of the vote share, CPIM (24.6%), Congress (8.6%) and Others (22%).

According to EC, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered victory in 13 constituencies. Tipra Motha has won 6 seats, Congress (1) and CPIM (1).

The BJP on Thursday said that it was ready to accept all demands of the Tipra Motha party, except for Greater Tipraland, if the new party led by former royal Pradyot Debbarma extends its support. The state BJP chief spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty said his party was marching to form the next government in the state.

"We are forming the next government in the state as we have been saying since the beginning. Two central leaders -- Phanindranath Sarma and Sambit Patra -- are here to oversee the situation, and hopefully, more central leaders will be arriving today," he said.

On the possibility of taking the support of the Debbarma-led party, he said, "Except for Greater Tipraland, the BJP is ready to accept all their demands." The BJP was leading in 33 seats in the 60-member House, while its partner IPFT was ahead in one seat.

The Tipra Motha, which seemed to have grabbed the IPFT's tribal support, was leading in 11 seats. The opposition Left-Congress alliance was ahead in 15 seats. Among others, the Tipra Motha is demanding a separate state of 'Greater Tipraland' for the indigenous population of Tripura. P

The BJP workers began celebrations at the party office as the saffron party got the majority in the EC trends. The workers raised Jai Shree Ram slogans.

BJP candidate Jadab Lal Debnath has won the Bagbassa constituency. 

BJP is set to return to power in Tripura, as the party crosses the majority mark in the 60-seat Assembly, even as counting continues.

According to EC, BJP leads in 29 seats, Congress-left (13), Tipra Motha (16).

With the highest 40.6% vote share, the BJP alliance is leading, as per the ECI trends

As per the ECI trend, BJP has taken over with the majority of 18 seats followed by Congress-left 14 seats. While Tipra Motha has garnered 12 seats.

Congress candidate Sudip Roy Barman leading from the Agartala assembly constituency with a margin of 3668 votes in early trends. As per the ECI, The Congress-left alliance has managed to garner 10 seats out of 40 announced. The counting of votes is underway.

As per ECI, out of 29,  BJP is leading on 14 seats, Tipra Motha on 6 seats, Congress on 4 and Communist party of India (marxist) leading on three seats  

As BJP has been in lead since the early trends, the party workers celebrated on the streets of Tripura.

BJP is leading in 7 seats and Congress on two while CPM has one seat.

As per ECI trends, BJP is ahead in 3 seats--  Surajit Datta from Ramnagar assembly seat, Mina Rani Sarkar from Badharghat, Manik Sahah from Town Bardowali.

Tripura's current CM Manik Saha is leading from its Town Bardowali assembly seats, with Congress' Asish Kumar Saha behind.

In Tripura, Congress-left alliance candidate Bayron Biswas leading by 521 votes after the first round of counting followed by TMC and then BJP

As per the Election Commission (ECI) trends, BJP has registered a 50.50% vote share while the Congress-left alliance has 45.6%.

As the voting of the northeastern states is underway, Union Minister Giriraj Singh tweeted and asserted that BJP will register a thumping victory. 

Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharya spoke exclusively to Republic and claimed that BJP will form govt with an absolute majority. After forming the government our party has worked for the development of the state and the welfare of the people. 
While talking about the opposition, he said "Congress is a sinking ship". On being asked about an alliance with Tipra Motha, the state BJP chief said we will look into it after the results.

As per the early trends, BJP has crossed halfway mark with 35 seats followed by Tipra Motha with 12 and Left with 8 seats. 

As the voting begins, BJP gets the lead with 32 seats while TMC and left are trailing.

As the big results will be announced today for Tripura, Congress and CPM are in talks with Tipra Motha to form a post poll alliance, according to the sources.

Counting agents and candidates of political parties have entered the counting booth of RKI School in District Unkoti district Kailashahar. Meanwhile, a serious complaint has been made by Congress where they have claimed that Deputy Magistrate Biswajit Das tried to open the strong room without informing anyone. At that very moment Congress party workers stopped him.

As the counting of votes begins, the BJP workers are performing puja at the State Party Office. Pandit Jayanta Bhattacharya (Head Priest, Tripura Government), Sunit Sarkar (BJP Media In-charge, Tripura) and Sharmistha Chakraborty (Bjp State Yuva Morcha Executive Member) are present.

Tripura gears up for big results as the counting of votes for 60 member assembly seats will be done and the results will be declared today, March 2.

A total of 28.13 lakh voters, including 13.53 lakh women, will decide the fate of 259 aspirants in the state of Tripura. Notably, the BJP is contesting in 55 seats while its ally IPFT has fielded candidates in six constituencies, meaning one constituency will witness a friendly fight. The BJP has promised more autonomy to the tribal areas amid a demand for a separate state, a meal at Rs 5, an amount of Rs 50,000 to EWS families on the birth of a girl child, a scooter to meritorious college-going girls, and smartphones to 50,000 meritorious students, among others.

CPM, in its manifesto, promised to restore of 'democratic, political and religious rights', 200-day work to the poor under MGNREGA, bring back the Old Pension Scheme, 2.5 lakh new jobs in government among other things.

Congress has promised to bring back the old pension scheme for government employees and to provide 150 free units of electricity.

This year the tough battle was between the Communists and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the CPM-Congress alliance, and the local TIPRA Motha. Ahead of the election results, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Friday that the BJP will be able to return to power in the state without having to forge any new alliances. Notably, the party has tied up with regional outfit Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) for the polls.

Ahead of the poll results, the Election Commission held booth-level "peace meetings" in Tripura as part of its efforts to ensure no untoward incident takes place anywhere in the state during and after the vote-counting process, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gitte Kirankumar Dinakarrao, reported PTI. According to the P-MARQ exit poll, the BJP-led alliance in Tripura is seen to get a decisive lead in the assembly. Whereas, the Left-Congress alliance and Tipra Motha Party will have a neck-to-neck battle in the electoral ground to get the second position. 

The exit poll suggests that BJP and Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) will manage to get 32-42 seats in the Tripura assembly out of the total 60 seats. The halfway mark to form the government has been kept as 31, where the BJP alliance is expected to form a majority government. 

On the other hand, Congress-Left and Tipra Motha Party will hold a close fight to settle as the largest opposition in the Tripura assembly. The P-MARQ exit poll highlights that Tipra Motha will achieve 8-15 seats and the Congress-Left alliance will get 9-15 seats combined. 

Kiran Gitte, Tripura's Chief Electoral Officer, said, "Counting of votes will take place at 21 counting centres. Election Commission has 60 election observers. All counting staff have been trained. Security arrangements and CCTV coverage have been arranged outside and inside counting centres."

"We have invoked Section  144 CrPC at locations where we have law and order apprehension. March 1 and 2 have been declared as 'dry days'. In the last 14 days after polling, we have had engagements and peace meetings with all political parties, candidates and local party workers," said Gitte.

Chief Minister Manik Saha is contesting from the Town Bardowali constituency, while Union minister Pratima Bhowmik is fighting from the Dhanpur constituency in the Sepahijala district. CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury is contesting from the Sabroom seat.

In the 2018 assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 36 seats, while its ally Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) bagged 18 constituencies. The CPI(M)-led Left Front emerged victorious in 16 seats, while the Congress drew a blank. 

The counting of votes for the Tripura Assembly elections will take place on Thursday, March 2. The preparations for the same have been completed. 

Elections to the 60 assembly constituencies in the state were held on February 16, with around 89.98 per cent of voters exercising their franchise. 

A triangular contest is expected in Tripura as traditional rivals Congress and the Left have joined hands for the first time to challenge the BJP in the election to the state's 60-member assembly.

In this battle among the national parties, it is the Pradyot Debbarma-led TIPRA Motha that has emerged as an X-factor as the sway of its founder, scion of erstwhile royalty, among a big section of the tribal population has disturbed conventional calculations, more so as the BJP and its ally Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) had done well in the tribal region in 2018.

"Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC have been clamped across the state from 6 pm on March 1 to 6 am on March 3 to prevent any untoward incident, but essential services and examinees have been kept out of its purview," he said.

Security personnel conducted flag marches in different areas of Agartala as a confidence-building measure. Around 25,000 security forces have been deployed in the state.
