Tripura Assembly Poll Results 2023 LIVE: BJP Manik Saha set to return with clear majority

According to the Election Commission report, the BJP alliance with 31 seats has registered a clear majority with CM Manik Saha all set to retain power in the state. The elections to the 60 assembly constituencies in Tripura were held on February 16, with around 89.98 per cent of voters exercising their franchise. No recounting demand or complaint was received from any party in Tripura: Kiran Gitte, Chief Electoral Officer

Tripura's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Kiran Gitte briefed that no recounting demand or complaint was received from any political parties after the counting of the votes completes. He said, "Under the Election Commission (EC) guidance election was conducted here in Tripura. Results were announced at 6 pm. Throughout the election, EC protocols were followed and no recounting demand or complaint was received from any party. About 90% of the voting was witnessed."

BJP hints at alliance with Tipra Motha in Tripura

The BJP on Thursday said that it was ready to accept all demands of the Tipra Motha party, except for Greater Tipraland, if the new party led by former royal Pradyot Debbarma extends its support. The state BJP chief spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty said his party was marching to form the next government in the state.

"We are forming the next government in the state as we have been saying since the beginning. Two central leaders -- Phanindranath Sarma and Sambit Patra -- are here to oversee the situation, and hopefully, more central leaders will be arriving today," he said.

On the possibility of taking the support of the Debbarma-led party, he said, "Except for Greater Tipraland, the BJP is ready to accept all their demands." The BJP was leading in 33 seats in the 60-member House, while its partner IPFT was ahead in one seat.

The Tipra Motha, which seemed to have grabbed the IPFT's tribal support, was leading in 11 seats. The opposition Left-Congress alliance was ahead in 15 seats. Among others, the Tipra Motha is demanding a separate state of 'Greater Tipraland' for the indigenous population of Tripura. P

Exit Polls: P-MARQ Predicts BJP To Take Big Lead In Tripura

According to the P-MARQ exit poll, the BJP-led alliance in Tripura is seen to get a decisive lead in the assembly. Whereas, the Left-Congress alliance and Tipra Motha Party will have a neck-to-neck battle in the electoral ground to get the second position. 

The exit poll suggests that BJP and Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) will manage to get 32-42 seats in the Tripura assembly out of the total 60 seats. The halfway mark to form the government has been kept as 31, where the BJP alliance is expected to form a majority government.

Kiran Gitte, Tripura's Chief Electoral Officer, said, "Counting of votes will take place at 21 counting centres. Election Commission has 60 election observers. All counting staff have been trained. Security arrangements and CCTV coverage have been arranged outside and inside counting centres."

"We have invoked Section  144 CrPC at locations where we have law and order apprehension. March 1 and 2 have been declared as 'dry days'. In the last 14 days after polling, we have had engagements and peace meetings with all political parties, candidates and local party workers," said Gitte.

CrPC Section 144 clamped in Tripura in view of the counting of votes

"Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC have been clamped across the state from 6 pm on March 1 to 6 am on March 3 to prevent any untoward incident, but essential services and examinees have been kept out of its purview," he said.

Security personnel conducted flag marches in different areas of Agartala as a confidence-building measure. Around 25,000 security forces have been deployed in the state.
