New Delhi: Mufti Shah Mir, a prominent Muslim scholar accused of helping Pakistan's ISI , was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Turbat, Balochistan. According to reports, Mir was attacked as he left a mosque after prayers. He suffered critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds.
Who was Mufti Shah Mir?
Mir was widely accused of assisting Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, in various illegal operations. Most notably, he was suspected of playing a role in the kidnapping of Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav from Iran.
His close association with Pakistan’s fundamentalist political party JUI further fueled allegations of his deep involvement in extremist activities.
As an ISI aide, Mir was allegedly engaged in drug and arms trafficking, frequently visiting terror camps in Pakistan.
He was also accused of acilitating terrorist infiltration into India. Beyond South Asia, Mir was active in Afghanistan, where he reportedly gathered intelligence for the Pakistani military and monitored insurgent groups in Pakistan-occupied regions.
His primary focus was on insurgent groups in regions illegally occupied by Pakistan, particularly monitoring their plans for independence movements.
