Bengaluru Extends Liquor Service Hours to 1 AM, Enhancing Nightlife and Dining Options
Bengaluru extends nightlife hours; clubs, hotels, bars, and eateries can serve liquor until 1 AM, boosting the city's vibrant nightlife.
Bengaluru residents have a reason to celebrate as the Siddaramaiah-led Karnataka government has announced an extension of nightlife timings in the city. According to the latest order, clubs, hotels, bars, and restaurants are now permitted to serve liquor until 1 AM. This new directive marks a significant shift from the previous restriction, which did not allow such establishments to serve alcohol beyond 11 PM.
The order, applicable to all licensed establishments within the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits, includes a variety of clubs, hotels, bars, and eateries. Specifically, clubs and other outlets can now serve alcohol until 1 AM, providing a much-needed boost to Bengaluru's vibrant nightlife.
The government notification specifies that clubs, hotels, and boarding houses owned by Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) community members can sell alcohol from 9 AM to 1 AM. In contrast, local bars and restaurants are allowed to sell alcohol from 10 AM to 1 AM.
Additionally, the notification permits all eateries within BBMP jurisdiction to serve customers from 6 AM to 1 AM. This inclusive policy applies to all darshinis, restaurants, hotels, and food carts, thereby enhancing the dining options available to residents and visitors alike.
In his 2024-2025 budget speech, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had promised that shops and establishments in Bengaluru would be allowed to remain open until 1 AM. The latest order from the Urban Development Department, dated July 29, fulfills this commitment, allowing various commercial establishments within BBMP limits to operate until the stipulated time.
Bruhath Bangalore Hotels Association President, PC Rao, expressed his approval of the new policy and said, till now only bars and restaurants within the limits of commissioner had an allowance to be open till 1:00 AM, but all commercial establishments across the BBMP limits are allowed to remain open till 1:00 AM.
This extension of operating hours is seen as a major step forward in boosting Bengaluru’s nightlife, making it more attractive for both residents and tourists. The relaxed regulations are expected to stimulate economic activity and enhance the city's reputation as a bustling urban center.
Overall, the extension of nightlife timings in Bengaluru is a welcome change that promises to bring new energy and vibrancy to the city's nightlife scene.
