Lesun Ka Dhamaal: Garlic Prices Gets Costlier Than 'Animal' Movie Ticket; Check Rates in Your City
The price of garlic is touching sky in many states of India, and the prime reason behind this is irregular supplies and destroyed crop due to Cyclone Michaung.
In a shocking turn of events, after the skyrocketing collection of the Ranbir Kapoor starrer, ‘Animal’, Garlic might be in the race to beat this movie. The price of garlic has reached Rs. 400 Per kg, leaving everyone wondering whether we need to learn to cook food without this spice.
After the high prices of onions and tomatoes, garlic is the new victim of inflation, and the main reason for this price surge is low supply. The price of garlic has reached Rs. 400/kg in some regions of India; the price has almost doubled in a matter of days. It is also said that this hike will be expected to be high until the new crop doesn’t come to market, which means until the end of the year.
Here are the prices of garlic in some of the major states:
- Garlic Price in Uttar Pradesh:- Rs. 80 per kg to Rs. 130 per kg.
- Garlic Price in Maharashtra:- Rs. 230 per kg to 340 per kg.
- Garlic Price in Rajasthan:- Rs. 80 per kg to 170 per kg
- Garlic Price in Punjab:- Rs. 50 per kg to Rs. 200 per kg.
The wholesale price of garlic has also seen a huge hike and is being sold at Rs. 130–140 per kg in the wholesale market. Also, the high-quality garlic is being sold at Rs. 220-250 per kg in wholesale.
What is the reason behind this price surge?
After the price hike on onions, garlic became the spice, which just doubled in a week. The major reason for this price hike is the dwindling supplies of garlic across the country as the unseasonal rains damaged most of the crops. The extreme conditions that were created by Cyclone Michaung in India led to the damage to garlic crops. Typically, the price of garlic rises in the winter as yields and supplies go low.
This unexpected price rise in garlic comes after a shortage in the supply of onions. Even after the center is taking steps to bring the prices down, the rates of garlic are stuck at Rs. 330 to 400 rupees per kg and Rs. 200 per kg wholesale.
