Mercury is the smallest and closest planet to the Sun in our solar system. Every year, Mercury appears to retrograde three to four times, creating the illusion that it is moving in the opposite direction.

This phenomenon occurs when Earth passes Mercury in its orbit, similar to when one car overtakes another, and the slower vehicle appears to be moving backwards from the perspective of the faster car.

All planets exhibit this apparent retrograde motion from Earth's vantage point, as they orbit the Sun at different speeds. Although Mercury's retrograde is an optical illusion, many people believe it impacts various aspects of life, including communication, technology, travel, and decision-making.

Timeline of the Retrograde: 

The current Mercury retrograde is expected to last until August 29, 2024, with the period between August 5 and 27 predicted to be particularly challenging for communication, both between humans and devices. 

Lina Sahhab, a 42-year-old non-profit worker, shared her experience with the BBC, revealing that she once dismissed Mercury retrograde superstitions as myth. However, after noticing a pattern of obstacles and technological glitches during these periods, she became a believer. 'My laptop would suddenly stop working, or I'd buy a new device that wouldn't function properly,' she explained.
