Sarvodaya Hospital, Greater Noida West, Successfully Performs Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy On 38-Year-Old Woman Suffering From Severe Obesity
The patient had been experiencing a wide range of obesity-related health issues, including difficulty in breathing, severe snoring, joint pain, wrist pain due to carpal tunnel syndrome, and the inability to conceive for the last few years.
In a significant medical intervention that underscores the importance of advanced bariatric care, Sarvodaya Hospital, Greater Noida West, has successfully performed a Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy on a 38-year-old woman suffering from Class II obesity, secondary infertility, uncontrolled diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, grade 2 fatty liver, and PCOD.
The patient had been experiencing a wide range of obesity-related health issues, including difficulty in breathing, severe snoring, joint pain, wrist pain due to carpal tunnel syndrome, and the inability to conceive for the last few years. At the time of her evaluation, she weighed 104 kg with a BMI of 40, categorised as Class II morbid obesity. Upon clinical assessment at Sarvodaya Hospital, she was diagnosed with multiple obesity-linked complications—secondary infertility due to obesity-induced PCOD, uncontrolled blood sugar levels with an HbA1c of 9, obstructive sleep apnea, and fatty liver disease. After comprehensive investigations and pre-anaesthetic evaluation, the medical team concluded that she was an ideal candidate for bariatric metabolic surgery.
The surgery was completed successfully through a minimally invasive laparoscopic approach, significantly reducing surgical trauma and enabling early recovery. Remarkably, the patient was able to walk within four hours of surgery, started on a liquid diet the next day, and is being discharged on the third post-operative day.
Dr Piyush Kumar Agrawal, Bariatric & Minimal Access Surgeon, Sarvodaya Hospital, Greater Noida West, who led the procedure, said, “The patient had multiple complications arising from long-standing obesity, including secondary infertility, PCOD, sleep apnea, fatty liver, and uncontrolled diabetes. After evaluating her symptoms and metabolic profile, we determined that bariatric metabolic surgery would provide the most effective long-term solution. Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that not only facilitates significant weight loss but also helps reverse many obesity-induced conditions. We expect her to lose nearly 30–40 kg in the coming months, which will greatly improve her overall health, fertility prospects, and quality of life.”
The successful intervention highlights Sarvodaya Hospital’s commitment to offering advanced, evidence-based, and personalised bariatric care, helping patients overcome complex metabolic and lifestyle-related disorders.
