To tackle the concerns rising about young children’s exposure to screen & their safety digitally, US-based Parent Geenee has introduced its location based parental control application in India, which consists of geolocation based controls and digital boundaries, which can be customized. Actor R. Madhavan is on board as strategic investor and stakeholder and was present for the launch event in Chennai.

“Unless your child is an expert in a field, they are not going to survive. A child must have the ability to implement focus with grit to survive. So, Parent Geenee will help children use the phone responsibly,” says R Madhavan.

The digital age has its pros and cons, and ensuring if their children are digitally safe is a challenge many Indian parents are deeply concerned about. The growing number of hours that the children spend on their digital devices is prone to physical & emotional side effects, which include deteriorating attention spans, disturbed sleep patterns and anxiety.

Parent Geenee app recognizes this need and is offering a more developed tool for the digital space as compared to the age-old methods of supervision.

“Parenting in the digital age isn’t about restricting technology—it’s about guiding children to use it responsibly,” says Hari Gadiraju, Founder and CEO, Parent Geenee.
The main intention behind the app is to set healthy boundaries for children so that there is a feeling of trust & not control.

The Parent Geenee methodology

Parent Geenee uses geolocation-based app restrictions to either enable specific applications or block them based on the child’s location as opposed to traditional screen-control apps.  Parents can create Safe Zones—such as home, school, or study centers—where distracting apps can be restricted. Additionally, with the optional Parent Geenee Bluetooth Beacon, families can designate smaller Chill Zones within Safe Zones where certain apps remain accessible.

The app also has a Wish Feature for the kids - this allows children to request temporary access to restricted apps. Rather than fully blocking, this actually promotes digital discipline while ensuring parents have the final say. Real-time location tracking with entry and exit alerts, multi-parent access for shared management and security measures to prevent unauthorized removal or VPN circumvention are some of the notable features of this app.

Parent Geenee’s two-tier subscription model includes a free version and a premium version. The former allows parents to connect one child’s device at a time and create one Safe Zone. The premium version extends access to four devices, six Safe Zones, and additional features like unlimited app requests and advanced filtering.

“The minute I met Maddy, 3-5 minutes into the meeting, I understood that I am the least knowledgeable person on the topic as he was the real expert. He was very interested in how to bring a change in the community and therefore, he came in as a Partner and Stakeholder in Parent Geenee.” Said Sasi Naga, Founder and Chairman, Parent Geenee

Parent Geenee has a strong reason why it chose India as its first global B2C market while being headquartered in Dallas, USA. They believe that the increasing urban population and growing exposure to digital devices make it imperative to introduce smarter solutions for digital parenting here.

This app will be relatable to the difficulties most modern parents face today & can help families establish healthier digital habits.

Schools could also use this tool

Parent Geenee also provides a school version going beyond households, which is structured to help teachers manage student device usage. Schools can now use a specialized dashboard to automatically restrict certain apps instead of confiscating phones, which will ensure a more focused learning environment.

With evolving awareness of screen addiction and the related mental health issues, Parent Geenee aims to strike a balance with its tools—allowing children to engage with technology while minimizing its risks.

As Indian parents seek solutions beyond strict bans and unrestricted access, location-based controls can offer that much needed middle ground in digital parenting.
