Gel nails have grown to become quite the rage. Not only is the feeling of freshly manicured nails from the salon one that is immensely satisfying, but there is a certain sense of carefreeness that comes with not having to constantly redo one's nails, courtesy the chips and peels. However, gel nails come with a certain sense of commitment, as it does take a lot of care to remove them.

How to remove gel nails at home?

While it is definitely recommended to have gel nails removed by a professional, there just are those times when one's schedule is way too packed to even allow thirty minutes to go get rid of the gel nails. However, one has to be extremely careful when it comes to following the steps that come with dissolving gel nails.

The first step in the process is to file down the gel topcoat so that the nail paint can be dissolved with the acetone. Next, soak ten cotton balls with acetone and keep them ready - do not exceed five to ten drops of acetone per cotton ball. Placing a cotton ball on each nail, carefully put it in place with an aluminum foil wrapping and keep them on for at least ten minutes. This must be followed by gently shirking off the colour with an orange stick or cuticle pusher. In case, the nail paint is still firm, simply reapply the cotton balls. After the process is done, buff your nails and hydrate them.

How often should you get gel nails done?

Most experts suggest getting one's gel nails done every two to three weeks. That being said, one must factor in the frequent exposure to UV light that comes with the process to enable the gel nail polish to dry.

This can, over time, can make one's hands dry and dull.
