5 gold medals won on Day 3 at the track cycling world championships

19 year-old New Zealander Corbin Strong added individual gold to the silver he won in the Men's team pursuit on Thursday in taking victory in the Men's points race at the Track World Championships in Berlin on Friday. Sebastian Mora of Spain took added silver to his Scratch race bronze and Dutch rider Roy Eefting picked up the bronze.

Sam Ligtlee of the Netherlands won the Men's 1km time trial, pushing the defending champion and fastest qualifier, Frenchman Quentin Lafargue, down into second place.

Ligtlee, the younger brother of Olympic Keirin champion Elis Ligtlee, clocked 59.495 seconds, more than a quarter of a second faster than Lafargue.

His compatriot Michael D'Almeida, bronze medallist in 2019, was third once again.

Italy's Filippo Ganna, who broke his own world record in qualification, comfortably won the Men's individual pursuit final, ahead of Ashton Lambie of the United States.

Ganna made it three world championship golds in a row and four out of five in the discipline.

Corentin Ermenault of France beat Italy's Jonathan Milan to the bronze.

22 year-old Yumi Kajihara of Japan won her first world title in the Women's Omnium.

Kajihara amassed points throughout the day's action to be able to cruise to victory - Italy's Letizia Paternoster and Daria Pikulik of Poland had a titanic struggle for the silver, with Paternoster just edging it.

And finally, Emma Hinze ofGermany gave the home crowd something to shout about as she swept Russia's Anastasia Voinova aside in the Women's sprint final.

Lee Wai Sze of Hong Kong took the bronze.
