India did exceedingly well in some events, including Archery, Athletics and Shooting. India topped the 28 gold medals with 38 silver and 41 bronze to stamp their authority. Some of the star-studded performances were also witnessed as the likes of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty brought a gold medal in the badminton mixed doubles. At the same time, Annu Rani defied the odds to clinch a historic gold medal in women's Javelin.
On the other side, neighbouring country Pakistan saw a steep decline in their performance in the Asian Games. They could only bring three medals and that too their medal tally was devoid of a gold medal. Two bronze medals in Kabaddi and Shooting was backed up by a silver in squash where they were eventually got beaten by an exemplary Indian team.

The last time India participated in the Asian Games in Jakarta, it saw a huge burst of 70 medals while Pakistan amassed only four medals. In this edition, India finally surpassed their long aim of the 100-medal mark while Pakistan saw their medal tally crash to a drastic three only. Indian athletes are now eyeing to replicate their tally in the upcoming Paris Olympics in 2024.
