Asian Para Games 2023: Athletics on top as India's medals tally rises to 17 in Hangzhou, China

The 2023 Asian Para Games are currently taking place in Hangzhou, China, spanning from October 22 to 28. Earlier this month, India finished its campaign at the Asian Games by winning a record 107 medals. It was our most successful edition in the history of the continental multi-sports event.

In the ongoing Asian Para Games 2023, India has already made its mark by securing a total of 17 medals. This impressive tally consists of six gold medals, six silver medals, and five bronze medals, showcasing the exceptional talent and determination of the Indian contingent in the para-sports arena. India are currently ranked fourth in the overall medals tally. China, Iran, and Uzbekistan are ahead of India on the list.

Athletics dominate at Asian Para Games

On the inaugural day of the athletics competition at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games, India accomplished a remarkable feat by securing a clean sweep in the men's club throw F51 event. Pranav Soorma, aged 29, emerged as the gold medalist, and in the process, set a new Asian Para Games record with an exceptional throw of 30.01 meters.

Joining him on the podium, Dharambir secured the silver medal with a throw of 28.76 meters, while Amit Kumar claimed the bronze with a throw of 26.93 meters. This outstanding performance by the Indian athletes not only showcased their talent and dedication but also reinforced India's strong presence in para sports on the Asian stage.
