David Silva has decided to hang up his boots from football, the Spaniard has announced. The former Manchester City attacking midfielder has been forced to announce his retirement following his recent anterior cruciate ligament injury during the pre-season with Real Sociedad. The 37 year old lifted four Premier League titles during his time with Manchester City.

Manchester City issued a statement.

David Silva has announced his retirement from football after suffering a knee injury. The 37-year-old damaged his anterior cruciate ligament during pre-season training with his current La Liga club Real Sociedad. He has now decided to call time on a wonderful career for both Club and country and will be remembered as one of the greatest players in City’s history

.Silva joined City in 2010 and spent 10 years at the Etihad Stadium helping us to a decade of success."
