Pep Guardiola made a huge statement on Erling Haaland after his UEFA Champions League Brace

Pep Guardiola backs Erling Haaland following his outstanding brace in Manchester City's victory over Young Boys.

Wednesday's meeting between Manchester City and Young Boys saw the former side control early on, but until Manuel Akanji scored in the 48th minute, the visitors were unable to break through. The advantage did not last long, though, as Meschack Elia equalised with a deft chip over Ederson. But Guardiola's squad rallied fast, and Haaland's penalty kick gave them the lead again in the 67th minute.

With his second goal of the game in the 86th minute, the 23-year-old cemented the victory and guaranteed Manchester City's perfect record in the Champions League this year. After the game, Guardiola talked about Haaland's recent play and the criticism he had received, praising him for his remarkable season total of 11 goals in 14 games across all competitions.  Talking on the TNT Sports, Guardiola said:

"I am so concerned. Honestly, I am so concerned,"

"Listen, it is important to have all the time the chances. The people expect him to score four goals every time.

“The people want him to fail, the people expect he won't do it, but I am sorry this guy is going to score goals all his life with the chances, the incredible threat.”

Guardiola on his UCL title defence race

Manchester City now sits atop Group G with a perfect record of nine points from three games after winning in Switzerland. RB Leipzig is in second position, Young Boys is in third, and Red Star Belgrade is at the bottom. Guardiola's squad needs just one more victory to guarantee their spot in the knockout rounds. The manager gave his players a lot of credit for their very polished performance.  He added:

"I had the feeling we were there. I admire my players, the way they face every competition and every game,". "I don't think they feel they are something special because they have won the Treble and the Champions League. We are humble enough to accept opponents can punish us.
