But one loss of Toni Kroos leaving the club has been a hard pill to swallow for not only Madrid fans but for the football world. The German legend played his last ever match for the club and will retire from both club football and international football after the UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany.
Toni Kroos gifts his ‘No.8’ jersey to Valverde
Social media users have shared a video on which Real Madrid icon Toni Kroos gives teammate Fede Valverde his renowned No. 8 shirt. German midfielder played his last game for Los Blancos on Saturday, June 1, in their 2-0 victory against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League final.
The Real Madrid squad went on the pitch to celebrate with their supporters after winning their 15th Champions League championship. Reported by B/R Football's X account, the former Bayern Munich player made a remark during the festivities. Toni Kroos said:
“At the moment my No. 8 is available... it's a pleasure to give it to this guy, Fede Valverde.”
Following his 2014 Real Madrid arrival, Toni Kroos has played 465 games across several competitions, scoring 28 goals and dishing out 99 assists. Among other honours, he has captured the La Liga titles four times and the Champions League five times during his career with Real Madrid.
Fede Valverde and Kroos have partnered in midfield in recent years. Across tournaments, the Uruguayan international and the German maestro have played 187 games together. Real Madrid has competent players in their midfield even with Kroos departing this summer. The next season is supposed to see more responsibility for Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, and Jude Bellingham.
Valverde appeared 54 times for Real Madrid in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and dishing off eight assists. He has up to now worn the No. 15 jersey.
