World No.1 Ash Barty announces shock retirement from Tennis at the age of 25
Ash Barty's announcement comes as a shocker since she is only 25 and at the top of the world rankings in Tennis. She won the Australian open this year.
Tennis World No.1 Ashleigh Barty has announced a shock retirement from the sport at the age of 25. She revealed it in an interview with Casey Dellacqua and posted on Instagram her decision to retire. Ash Barty won the Australian Open earlier this year. She has also won the French Open (2019) and the Wimbledon (2021) in the singles category, and the US Open (2018) in the doubles category.

She wrote on Instagram, "Today is difficult and filled with emotion for me as I announce my retirement from tennis. I wasn’t sure how to share this news with you so I asked my good friend @caseydellacqua to help me. I am so thankful for everything this sport has given me and leave feeling proud and fulfilled. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, I’ll always be grateful for the lifelong memories that we created together."
Barty has said that she will share more information in a press conference tomorrow.
Ash Barty's career
Barty took a break from tennis to play cricket in the Big Bash League before returning to the sport in 2016. The next year, she won her first WTA title at the Malaysian Open, breaking into the top 20 of world rankings for the first time in her career. Barty won her first Grand Slam singles title in 2019 after she emerged victorious at the French Open.
After winning Wimbledon in 2021, she went on to win the Australian Open earlier this year.
