Apple launches M4-powered iMac at starting price of Rs 1,34,900
The new iMac is also compatible with Apple’s artificial intelligence, which the company calls Apple Intelligence.
The M4-powered iMac is here. As promised, Apple has kicked off the week full of announcements with the refreshed version of its desktop computer, which ditches last year’s M3 chip for a faster and more efficient M4. Apple claims the M4 iMac is up to 1.7x faster and 2.1x faster than the M1 iMac, resulting in faster load times in “demanding workflows like photo editing and gaming.” The new iMac is also compatible with Apple’s artificial intelligence, which the company calls Apple Intelligence and is rolling out starting today, October 28, worldwide.
M4 iMac price in India
The iMac with M4 chip starts at Rs 1,34,900 and goes on sale starting November 8 from Apple Store Online, Apple BKC, and Apple Saket. It comes in green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver colours with up to 1TB of configurable storage.
Apple has also launched a more advanced iMac version that starts at Rs 1,54,900 and comes in green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. It goes on sale the same day from Apple’s online and offline stores.
M4 iMac specifications
The M4 chip is the biggest upgrade to the iMac, bringing performance improvements and support for Apple Intelligence. The company claims software like Microsoft Excel can run up to 1.7 times faster, while browsing in Safari will be 1.5 times faster compared to iMac with M1. However, Apple has not stated how big of an improvement the M4 chips brings over last year’s M3. It said gamers can get up to 2 times higher frame rates on the M4 iMac than on the M1 iMac, while content creators will see 2.1 times faster and photo and video editing performance “when applying complex filters and effects in apps like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro.” When sat next to Intel-based iMac, the performance rises 6 times on the M4 iMac.
Other than that, the iMac retains the 24-inch 4.5K Retina display with a nano-texture glass option that “drastically reduces reflections and glare” without compromising on the image quality. The Center Stage camera now uses a 12MP sensor and supports Desk View for “more engaging” video calls. The base variant now has 16GB of unified memory – double of what the previous generations have offered – which the company said will make it run Apple Intelligence features seamlessly, offering AI-powered writing and editing features. A redesigned Siri is also coming with Apple Intelligence. The storage is configurable up to 32GB, while customers can also go for a M4 variant with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU. It has four USB-C ports, with Thunderbolt 4, and supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
