Apple launches Mac mini with M4, Apple Intelligence support
The new Mac mini also comes with Apple Intelligence support and 16GB in the entry-level model.
Apple has announced the new Mac mini, featuring the biggest redesign on the company's small desktop computer in years. It measures 5 by 5 inches—almost the size of the recent Apple TV—and is Apple's smallest Mac product. The Mac mini 2024 uses the latest M4 chip, which, Apple says, offers up to 1.8x faster CPU performance and 2.2x faster GPU performance over the M1 model, which was launched in 2021. The new Mac mini also comes with Apple Intelligence support and 16GB in the entry-level model.
“Combined with the performance of M4 and the new M4 Pro chip, enhanced connectivity on both the front and back, and the arrival of Apple Intelligence, Mac mini is more capable and versatile than ever, and there is nothing else like it,” said John Ternus, Apple's senior vice president of hardware engineering.
Mac mini M4 price in India
The Mac mini with M4 chip starts at Rs 59,900, while the higher variant with an M4 Pro chip is priced starting at Rs 1,49,900. The pre-orders are now live on Apple Store Online, while the sale begins on November 8.
Mac mini M4 specifications
The biggest discernible change in the Mac mini is how small it has become. In a video, Apple showed the M4-powered Mac mini is almost the size of a palm. To put it in a better context, the Mac mini is about the size of the Apple TV. Speaking using numbers, it measures 5 by 5 inches but does not compromise on any features. According to Apple, the miniaturisation of the Mac mini could be possible through the M4's efficiency and “an innovative thermal architecture, which guides air to different levels of the system, while all venting is done through the foot.”
The Mac mini has two USB-C ports on the front along with a 3.5mm audio jack. Around its back, the new computer has an ethernet port, an HDMI port, and three USB-C ports with Thunderbolt.
The Mac mini with M4 has a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU with 16GB of unified memory. It supports up to two 6K displays using Thunderbolt ports. Those who need power for more resource-intensive tasks can go for the M4 Pro version, which has up to 14 CPU cores, including 10 performance cores and four efficiency cores, and 20 GPU cores, together capable of delivering twice the performance of the M4 model. The Neural Engine on the M4 Pro is also over three times faster than the M1-powered Mac mini. The M4 Pro version supports up to 64GB of unified memory and Thunderbolt 5, which can support up to three 6K displays.
