Big boost to Make in India: Google to manufacture Pixel smartphones in India, starting with Pixel 8

Google Pixel manufacture in India: Google on Thursday, October 19, announced it plans to manufacture Pixel smartphones in India, starting with Pixel 8. The devices will be rolled out in 2024, confirmed Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President, Devices & Services, Google. He said the company will partner with international contract manufacturers to make the phones in India.

"We will start manufacturing Google Pixel series smartphones in India," Osterloh said at the Google for India event.

He made the announcement in the presence of Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. 

Google CEO Sundar Pichai also confirmed the move. “We’re committed to being a trusted partner in India’s digital growth- appreciate the support for Make In India,” Pichai wrote on X.

Only two weeks ago, Google unveiled its latest line of Pixel smartphones. Google rival Apple is already ramping up production of its flagship iPhone in India. India has set an ambitious plan to produce $300 billion in electronics products by 2025-26, and thereby become a global hub for electronics manufacturing.
