Video: Will Saudi Arabia Become The First Arab Nation To Get F-35 Jets?
Saudi Arabia’s bid to acquire U.S.-made F-35 stealth fighters has moved forward within the Pentagon, potentially making it the first Arab nation to operate fifth-generation combat jets. Built by Lockheed Martin, the F-35 offers advanced stealth, sensors, and networking capabilities—far surpassing Riyadh’s existing F-15s and Typhoons. While the purchase would modernize Saudi air power and elevate its regional standing, it raises political concerns as Israel currently remains the sole F-35 operator in the Middle East. Washington may approve a limited or downgraded version to preserve Israel’s military advantage. Analysts say Riyadh’s move is as much about prestige and signaling loyalty to the U.S. as it is about defense needs, especially amid its growing ties with China and Russia.
