'IndiGo Is Accountable', Aviation Minister Vows Refunds, Safety & Accountability | Ram Mohan Naidu
Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu assured Parliament on December 9, 2025, that IndiGo's operational failures are stabilizing after over 4,000 cancellations in a week, with airports returning to normalcy and safety protocols fully intact. He emphasised that no airline can impose hardships on passengers, confirming IndiGo is being held accountable for disruptions despite prior DGCA rule confirmations, and ordered prompt refunds alongside rescheduling waivers till December 15. Naidu stressed safety is non-negotiable, rejecting any exemptions that compromise it, while encouraging new airlines to enter the market to boost competition.
The minister's update comes amid IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers' promise of a "system reboot" by December 10-15, following probes into crew shortages, FDTL fatigue rules, fog, and glitches that tanked on-time performance to 19.7%. With shares rebounding slightly and DGCA monitoring fares, Naidu reiterated government support, like extra train,s but warned of strict enforcement.
