The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) returned to power in the nation's capital for the first time in almost thirty years on Thursday when Rekha Gupta, a new MP, took the oath of office as Delhi's ninth chief minister in a lavish ceremony held at Ramlila Maidan. Six other lawmakers were sworn in as ministers: Purvanchali Brahmin faced Kapil Mishra (Karawal Nagar), Purvanchali Thakur faced Pankaj Singh (Vikaspuri), Sikh faced Manjinder Singh Sirsa (Rajouri Garden), Dalit faced Ravinder Indraj Singh (Bawana), and Jat faced Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma (New Delhi), who defeated Arvind Kejriwal. The day was packed for Rekha Gupta, the lawmaker from Shalimar Bagh in west Delhi. He took the oath of office in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a ceremony that served as a demonstration of the NDA's strength. He then assumed the position of chief minister at the secretariat, attended an evening aarti at the Yamuna ghat, and presided over the first meeting of the new Delhi cabinet.
